In your quest to become an influential social media personality on Instagram, you may have created more than one account.
But juggling multiple profiles can be challenging, not to mention unnecessary. If most of your followers and content are on one account, it makes sense to focus your marketing efforts on that one for maximum results. In that scenario, the other accounts are just dead weights.
Once upon a time, Instagram had a feature that allowed users to merge their accounts. In this article, we’ll find out if that method is still viable and discuss how to merge Instagram accounts.
Can You Merge Instagram Accounts?
Merging your Instagram accounts is tricky. Though it was once possible to accomplish this feat through your profile settings, that’s no longer the case. In other words, Instagram doesn’t offer a merge feature anymore.
The good news, though, is that it’s still pretty easy to consolidate your Instagram accounts into one, while also minimizing your follower and engagement losses. Thus, we achieve nearly the same results as we would through merging.
Let’s dive into three ways to do that!
3 Ways To Merge Multiple Instagram Accounts
Check out three ways to “merge,” or consolidate, your accounts on Instagram.
1. Ask Your Followers on One Account to Follow You on the Other
The easiest way to “merge” your accounts is to select one that you want to make your primary profile. Then, create posts on all your other accounts that ask all your followers to follow you on the main one.
Once you’ve given them plenty of time to follow you – at least a week – you can delete your old accounts. This would leave you with only one profile to manage from now on.
There are some obvious pros and cons to this method. On the one hand, it enables you to focus solely on the account that is getting the most follows and the most traffic. On the other hand, you run the risk that not all your followers on your other accounts will transfer over. It’s up to you to decide if you want to take that risk.
2. Create a New Account and Repost all Your Content
The second most common way to consolidate your Instagram accounts is to create a new account and repost all your content on it. After the transfer is complete, you can delete your old profiles.
This method is doable, but time-consuming. You will have to repost all your content manually, in the same order as before and with the same captions; but the dates will be current, not original.
You can also use a third-party app to handle this cumbersome transfer process for you. But by doing so, you risk compromising your Instagram login information. In the end, it’s safer to handle it yourself.
3. Swap Usernames on Your Accounts
This last method is a little tricky, but it may help you if you want to attract followers from a secondary Instagram account to a primary account.
First, log into your secondary account on Instagram and go to Settings and Privacy. Tap Account Center, and then tap Profiles. After that, tap your secondary profile and then, on the next screen, select Username. The last step is to change your username to something generic or simple that you don’t plan on using anywhere else.
Next, log into your primary account and follow the same steps to edit your username. Only when you change it, change it to your secondary account’s old username. (It should still be available if you’re quick!)
By the end of this process, your primary account should reflect the old username of your secondary account.
The idea behind this method is that, from now on, whenever one of your followers on your secondary account searches for the old username, they’ll find your primary account and follow you there.
Keep in mind that this method doesn’t actually merge your profiles, followers, or content. All it does is swap usernames. That’s it! And you may not even want to do it if you don’t like the username on your secondary account. In that case, it may be more beneficial for you to use the first or second method we discussed above.
Alternative Solution: Keep Your Other Instagram Accounts and Switch Between Profiles
If none of the merging processes listed above sound right for you, there is an alternative solution. You can keep all your Instagram accounts open and simply switch between profiles at will. This lets you keep all your followers and content across your accounts (although they will still, for all intents and purposes, remain separate).
Switching between profiles on Instagram is as easy as holding your finger down on your profile picture for a few seconds. Adding accounts is simple, too.
We explain how that works Below.👇
For Mobile Devices (iOS and Android)
Step #1: Open the Instagram app.
Step #2: Press and hold down on your profile picture in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Step #3: Tap Add account.
Step #4: Tap Log into Existing account (or Create new account if you want to set up a completely new profile).
Step #5: Enter the username and password to the account you want to link.
Step #6: Add up to five accounts using the same process.
Step #7: To switch back and forth between accounts, press and hold down on your profile picture and select the profile you want to manage.
For Desktop (Mac and PC)
Step #1: Open your preferred web browser and go to instagram.com.
Step #2: Click Switch next to your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Step #3: Click Log into an Existing Account.
Step #4: Enter your username and password.
Step #5: Click Login.
Step #6: To switch between accounts, click Switch and then select the account you want to log into.
