When you open your Instagram Explore page, what do you see? If your page is full of models, you’re not alone. Liking a single model’s photo can lead Instagram’s platform to recommend model after model.
But you can rid your Instagram of being overrun with models by first learning why the algorithm keeps showing you model content.
4 Reasons Why Your Explore Page is Filled with Models
Over 50% of users visit the Explore page each day on Instagram. Some see cats, dogs, or fitness enthusiasts, and others see models. Why?
1. You Follow a Lot of Models
If you go through your followers:
- Do you follow a lot of models?
- Have you recently followed a lot of models?
Instagram wants to keep you on the platform, so if you like a lot of model accounts, the algorithm will flood your Explore page with models.
Seed accounts play a major role in how Instagram’s algorithm works.
What are Seed Accounts?
Seed accounts are those that you recently:
- Follow
- Like
- Comment on
Instagram is always looking for new “seeds” to show you accounts and posts that it believes you’ll like and will keep you on the platform more often.
2. You Comment and Like a Lot of Model Accounts
If you “like” or “comment” on a lot of model pictures or videos, this will influence what is shown on your Explore page. You can test this out by liking and commenting more on the posts that you want to see, and you’ll find more of them on the Explore page.
3. You Save a Lot of Model Posts
Saving posts works much in the same way as our last point and will have an influence on the content that Instagram recommends to you.
4. You Post Model Content or Use Model-Related Hashtags
Models often see models on their Explore page. Why? The algorithm will show you similar content to what you post because it tries to match your likes and interests to what they recommend to your account.
Getting Your Explore Page To Show Fewer Models
Now that you know why your Explore page is full of models, you’re probably wondering how to change that. There are a few things to do to change your Explore page’s content.
1. Choose “Not Interested” on Model Photos
Instagram’s algorithm tends to show you the types of content that you interact with most often. But you can tell the algorithm that you’re really not interested in that kind of content so that it shows you it less often.
Here’s how:
- Head over to the Explore page.
- Find an example of the content you no longer want to see.
- Press and hold on that image or Reel.
- Select the three dots on the bottom right side of the image.
- Choose “Not interested.”
Once you hit “Not interested,” you’ll be notified that the post is now hidden and that you’ll be shown this type of content less often.
2. Change Your Suggested Content Settings
Along with telling Instagram that you’re not interested in certain types of content, you can also filter down your content preferences even further.
Here’s how:
Step #1: Head to your profile and tap the hamburger menu (three lines) at the top right side of the interface.
Step #2: Tap “Settings and privacy.”
Step #3: Under the “What you see” section, tap “Suggested content.”
Step #4: Here, you can change your preferences. For example, you can add certain words or phrases associated with content you don’t want to see, like “model.” You can also hide sensitive content, snooze suggested posts and more.
3. Delete Your Search History
One of the most effective ways to reset your Explore page is to delete your search history. Instagram uses your past searches to help determine what kind of content to show you.
To wipe out your search history:
Step #1: Head over to your profile on the Instagram app.
Step #2: Tap the hamburger menu at the top right side of the interface.
Step #3: Choose “Your activity.”
Step #4: On this page, you can view all of the content you liked, commented on, tagged, gave sticker comments to, reviewed and more.
Step #5: Scroll down to “Recent searches.”
Step #6: “Tap “Clear all.”
Step #7: You’ll be prompted to verify that you really want to clear your search history.
Step #8: Tap “Clear all” again to remove all your past searches.
You can take things a step further by also unliking all of the posts that you liked in the past. However, this could potentially take a long time if you’re really active on Instagram.
4. Unfollow Models
Part of the reason why you’re being shown so many models is because you follow them. Instagram assumes you want to see more of this content.
To help reduce the number of models you see on the Explore page, start unfollowing models.
Wrapping Up
If your Explore page is full of models, it’s probably because you follow models and interact with their content. But you can change your Explore page’s content by clearing your search history and telling Instagram that you don’t want to see that kind of content as often.
