As a YouTube creator, your audience is everything! They are the ones providing you with valuable engagement and ad impressions, and converting into customers that will buy your products and services.

That’s why it’s important to learn as much as you can about the people who watch your videos. But that begs the question: how do you do it? Can you see who views your YouTube videos?

No, You Can’t See Who Views Your YouTube Videos…

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to see the individual accounts that are generating views for your YouTube videos. YouTube simply doesn’t provide that data.

When you think about it, though, it makes sense. Telling creators who’s watching their content is an invasion of privacy for the viewers. They prefer to be able to choose when and how to engage with videos. If they decide merely to view one, and not comment on it, they should be able to do so without the owner of the channel knowing.

However, that doesn’t mean that you’re left without any tools to learn more about your audience!

… But You CAN See Their Age, Gender, and Their YouTube Activity

Even though you can’t see the people who are viewing your account, you can still discover information about them through demographics and their YouTube activity.

Demographics is a broad field of data that covers metrics like age, gender, ethnicity, occupation, education, and location. Put it all together, and it tells you a lot about what kinds of people make up your audience, especially when you identify which traits are most commonly shared among them.

You may think that it’s not easy to find all this data, but you’d be wrong! YouTube provides the ages, genders, and geographic locations of your audience members for you under the Analytics tab in YouTube Studio

Also in the Analytics tab, you can see what other channels and types of videos your viewers are watching; how much watch time you’re getting from your subscribers; your viewers’ top subtitle languages; and which formats they watch YouTube in.

With that information, you can learn what type of content your audience likes and who your top competitors are. You can also learn how to make your videos more accessible by posting them at certain times or including subtitles.

But first, you have to navigate to these analytics! And we’re about to show you how to do that.
