Instagram games are a lot of fun. You can engage with your followers, have people comment and create content that people really look forward to viewing.
Not sure what games to play?
We’re going to share a few games that you can ask your followers to play. You can create a fast image with the game’s rules or a quick video telling your followers how to play along with the game.
Let’s start with one of the most popular Instagram games.
1. Number Instagram Story Games
One of the simplest games to play is the number game. You can create an image saying, “Let’s play a game. More info in the comments,” or you can create a series of images with questions that followers can ask you.
A few questions to get your game started are:
- Are you single?
- Who is your crush?
- Have you ever been arrested?
- What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
- Who is your favorite follower?
And the crazier the questions are, the more people will love the story.
2. Ask Me Anything
Ask Me Anything (AMA) content is another great option for a game and is something that’s very popular on Reddit (check it out for reference). The idea is to have an AMA in the comments. You can ask your followers to ask questions in the comments, and you have to go through them and reply.
If you want to build a deeper relationship with your followers, AMAs can help.
3. Emoji Quiz
An emoji quiz is quite a popular option for Instagram games. You can find an example of one in this post by learningenglishwithoxford. The rules are rather simple:
- Add a bunch of emojis to tell a story
- Ask people to guess the meaning correctly
Essentially, you’re quizzing your followers on their emoji prowess to see how well they know their emojis.
4. This or That
This or That quizzes are a lot of fun, and you get to take the quiz yourself, too. The idea is simple:
- Create an image that says “This or That,” and underneath, put the quiz theme. For example, Sleeping.
- On the “this side,” you may put “window open,” and on the “that side,” you can put “window closed.”
And you can add a bunch of points that are opposites, such as:
- Snoring – I don’t snore
- Fan on – fan off
- Socks on – socks off
- Etc.
You can then create an animated option where you check off each of your choices and ask your followers to take the quiz themselves. Followers can leave their answers in the quiz’s comments.
5. Story Quiz
Quizzes are so easy to add to your Instagram Story. Simply open the app, add to your story and then add the “Quiz” sticker. You can:
- Set questions
- Set answers
And, when followers see the quiz, they’ll have the option to answer the question that you ask using a multiple-choice format. Insta will alert the person if the answer that they chose was right or wrong.
6. Caption This
A personal favorite of mine is the “Caption This” game. You can add a hilarious image and ask people to “caption this.” Followers can comment or reply back to the story with a caption that they have for the image.
And, if your followers are funny, you’ll end up with hilarious captions for your post.
7. Draw Challenge
Quick Draw challenges are a lot of fun and allow your followers to engage with you. Simply ask them to draw something and tag followers that you want to participate in the challenge. You can then pick the winner of the contest.
8. GIF Challenge
GIF challenges are fun and an easy way to keep your followers engaged. If you choose your topics carefully, the game can even get reshared by followers. For example, the challenge would be laid out with the name of the challenge and blocks that include:
- Me as a GIF
- Dream vacation
- Favorite food
And your followers will repost the story and add their own gifs to the square.
9. What’s Your Favorite?
Do you want to get to know your followers? Ask them what their “favorite” things are and tell them to leave the list in the comments. You can ask them, what’s your favorite:
- City
- State
- Country
- Food
- Animal
- Etc.
10. The First Letters Game
The first letter of a person’s name can be used to create an entire game. Seriously! What you’ll do is ask people to respond to the following questions using words that start with the first letter of something, such as their name.
If a person’s name is Rosie, they will answer the following questions something like this:
- Occupation: Rockstar
- Color: Red
- Animal: Rabbit
- Country: Romania
- And so on
Just be sure to add a dozen or so questions for them to answer to make it fun.
11. Truths and a Lie
See how well your followers know you with the Truths and a Lie game. This one is really easy to put together, and people will have fun guessing which one is a lie.
Here’s how it works:
- Create a new Story.
- Add the Quiz sticker and call it “2 Truths & A Lie.”
- Add three answers, making sure one is a true statement.
- Add the caption “Which one is a lie?”
You can share the results of the quiz, and which one was the lie.
Truths and A Lie is a fun game that will help everyone get to know you a little better. And it’s one that you can play often if your followers enjoy it.
12. Yay or Nay
Want to get your followers’ attention? Play a game of “yay or nay.” Have people vote on things that are relevant to your niche or market.
Use the emoji slider sticker for voting and choose cute emojis for it.
The results will tell you how much your followers love or hate something, and you can use that info for creating future content or products.
13. Pictionary
Who doesn’t love a good game of Pictionary? You can play it with your followers on Instagram. Start by drawing something either on paper or right on the app, and then use the question box sticker to ask people to guess what you’re drawing.
If you’re an influencer or a brand, draw something that’s relevant to your market or niche.
And if you really want to kick up the engagement, you can offer a prize to the first person or the first few people who guess it right.
If no one gets it right, you can continue adding to your drawing until someone figures it out.
14. Nominate Someone to Share Something
Another fun Instagram game to play is to get a tag train going. Start by creating a challenge and then nominating someone to complete the challenge. That person can nominate someone else and keep the tagging train going.
Here are some great examples:
- Epic dessert challenge. I nominate @InstagramUser to share their fave recipe.
- Office look challenge. I nominate @InstagramUser to share their go-to work outfit.
- Push-up challenge! I nominate @InstagramUser to do 100 push-ups.
If you really want to boost engagement, name the challenge after your brand and create a hashtag for it.
15. “Do You Know Me?” Challenge
Do your followers really know you? Play this game to find out! It’s really easy to set up and play.
First, think of a question to ask about yourself:
- What’s my dog’s name?
- What’s my favorite movie?
- Where am I from?
- What’s my favorite color?
The question possibilities are endless. And you can share your answers to help people get to know you a little better.
There’s a benefit to playing this game. Your followers really do want to know who you are and what your interests are. Answering these questions will help build trust and strengthen your relationship with your followers. They’ll also be more engaged with your content if they feel like they know you.
Brands can also play this game for the same purpose, but the questions should be aligned with the brand’s values and missions.
16. Get to Know Your Followers
The poll sticker is perfect for playing games that help you get to know your followers on Instagram. These games are easy to play, and they’re also one of the most trendy Instagram story games to play.
Here’s how it works:
- You ask a question.
- Your followers choose one of two answers.
For example, you can ask:
- Are you team…Coffee or Tea?
- Do you prefer…Pizza or Pasta?
- What’s your favorite season? Winter or Summer?
- Are you team…Beach or Mountains?
Your followers will be happy to share their opinions with you, and you get the opportunity to learn a little more about them.
If you really want to boost engagement, ask controversial questions.
The goal of this kind of game is to get to know your audience either for fun or to create better content that appeals to them. So, choose your questions carefully. Make them count.
Let’s say that you’re a beauty influencer. You could ask:
- Are you team…Lip Gloss or Lipstick?
- Do you prefer…Tutorials or Product Reviews?
The answers to these questions can help you determine what kind of content your followers want to see. Maybe they prefer product reviews, so you post more of them instead of creating tutorials.
Of course, you can also play this kind of game just for fun if you want. And you can also share the results of your poll, so your followers can learn more about each other.
17. Unpopular Opinion Poll
An unpopular opinion poll can be a really fun game to play, and there are a few ways to do it:
- Share your own unpopular opinion and add a poll sticker to see if people agree or disagree.
- Ask people to share their own unpopular opinions using the question box sticker.
Be prepared to get some crazy answers and share them with your followers.
What’s great about this game is that you can play it regularly. People love sharing their opinions, especially if they think they’re controversial. This can also be a great way to spark interesting conversations with your followers and learn more about them on a deeper level.
18. Google Confession
Here’s a really cool game idea that can also help you get to know your audience. Play the Google Confession game. Ask people to share the last thing they searched on Google.
Use the question box sticker so that viewers can share their answers.
You may be surprised by the answers you get! But you’ll also learn a little more about your audience’s interests or their problems. And those insights can also help you create future content that appeals to them.
19. Optical Illusions
Optical illusions can be a really fun game to play on Instagram, and it’s super easy to set up and play. First, find a really awesome optical illusion to share. Then, ask viewers to share what they see.
You can do this in the form of a:
- Poll, where you give people 2 answers to choose from
- Quiz, where they can write in their own answer
You can even share funny responses if you’re doing a quiz or the results of your poll.
These kinds of games get a lot of engagement because people love sharing their answers.
20. Music Challenge
Here’s a fun game for Instagram: a music challenge. Challenge your followers to share a song that matches your description.
For example:
- A song from the year you were born
- A song that breaks your heart
- A song that makes you happy
- A song with a color in the title
Followers can screenshot your Story, and add their song choice in their Story to keep the game going. You can do this kind of challenge for a week or even 30 days.
If you’re looking to boost engagement on Instagram, try playing these 20 games. Your followers will enjoy participating, and you’ll get to know your audience a little bit better.
